Never Idle: the Contributions of Ethel Baldwin

While many people know of Harry Baldwin’s plantation and political career, less is known of his wife Ethel Baldwin (née Smith), a great community leader in her own right. Whatever Ethel was involved in, she was non-partisan, non-sectarian and non-discriminatory. She was involved in a plethora of social commissions and boards on Maui and in the Territory and State of Hawaii, from leading the local women’s suffrage movement, to taking a leading role in establishing the first child welfare laws and old age pensions. 

The Makawao History Museum is honored to have an exhibit that highlights her community and social accomplishments, open to the public beginning Saturday, November 4, 2017. Museum hours are Monday-Friday 10am-5pm, Saturday 10am-1pm, Sunday 11am-5pm.
